By remembering Martha Trust in your Will, after your friends and family have been looked after, you can leave a life changing legacy to people with profound disabilities.
Making a Will is the only way to be certain that the people and causes you care about will be taken care of after you die.
Whatever size gift you choose to leave, it will have a huge impact on our work. Just 1% of your estate can ensure we are transforming the lives of people with profound disabilities well into the future.
Your Will reflects the person you are, the values you hold and shows the love to the people and causes you hold close to your heart. And leaving a gift to your favourite charity also comes with tax advantages. Charitable legacies are usually free from inheritance tax, and you can choose to pledge either a fixed sum, a share of your estate or a specific gift like art, land or shares.

Your Legacy Questions Answered
Why is it important to make a Will? (answer in drop)
A Will is a legal document that sets out what happens to your money, property and/or possessions (known as your estate) after your death. If you die without making a Will (known as intestate), certain rules dictate how and to who your estate will be allocated which may not reflect your wishes. Making a Will helps ensure your estate goes to the people or causes you care about.
What kind of gift can I leave in my Will?
- A percentage or share of the remainder of your estate once friends and family have been provided for. This is known as Residuary gift.
- A gift of a set amount sum of money, known as a Pecuniary gift.
- A specific gift – a gift of an item of property, an antique or a piece of jewellery or stocks and shares. This is known as a specific gift.
Who can I leave a gift to? (answer in drop down)
It’s entirely up to you who you leave a gift to in your Will. Your Will reflects the person you are, the values you hold and shows the love to the people and causes you hold close to your heart.
What are the benefits of leaving a gift to charity in your Will? (answer in drop down)
Leaving a gift to charity in your Will is a powerful way to make a lasting impact. Many people choose to support causes close to their heart in this way—and whatever inspires your decision, your generosity means the world to us. It helps ensure we can continue our vital work, long into the future.
We always recommend seeking professional legal advice when writing or updating your Will. A solicitor can guide you through the process and help you understand any tax benefits that might apply.
Currently, Inheritance Tax is charged at 40% on the portion of your estate that exceeds your tax-free threshold. However, if you choose to leave at least 10% of your taxable estate to charity, the tax rate on the remaining estate may be reduced to 36%. This means your loved ones could benefit while you also support the causes you care about most.
